Director Found For ‘Creed 2,’ Michael B. Jordan & Tessa Thompson To Return

The sequel to “Creed” is getting into fighting form, and it’s about time, because the movie is slated to open in eleven months. And while most of the team who made the first magic happen will be back, one key ingredient will be sitting out (somewhat).

THR reports that Steven Caple Jr. has been tapped to direct the currently untitled “Creed 2.” Wait, who? Well, much like how Ryan Coogler made the leap from indie drama to studio movie, Caple Jr. will do the same. His last effort was the Sundance entry “The Land” which followed four teenage friends and skateboarders, who fall into slinging drugs in Cleveland. Caple Jr. will step up to direct the script by Cheo Hodari Coker and Sylvester Stallone, which will followup on the newly famous Adonis Creed, and probably his eventual showdown with Son Of Ivan Drago, if Stallone’s social media accounts are anything to go by.

Coogler, who is currently finishing “Black Panther,” will stay on in an executive producer role, while both Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson will unsurprisingly reprise their lead roles. Production is likely to begin soon because “Creed 2” is slated to open on November 21, 2018.
